The Trek for Master's

Writer's picture: NayanNayan

During the final months of my Bachelor's degree, I started out in the world to see if I can find my passion. I took a creative writing workshop, got a chance to work with a news media platform, pursued acting, binge-watched all of Star Trek, wrote a piece of fiction, covered an Indian wedding with a photographer friend and then came to Google for advice, because why not? And then I read something online which resonated with me so much that it set me straight. Someone somewhere had said, "Say you’re an average artist, with a decent sense of humour, right. You won’t have much hope with an art degree, and you can’t study ‘humour’ as a subject. But you could be an awesome cartoonist. If you fuse your mediocre skills together, you'll find your passion."

I didn't exactly find the meaning of life and death or anything, I just understood that I don’t have to be an expert in something to be successful, I need to be good at that and then use my own individuality to make it into something of my own, something I'm proud of.

I looked into what affects me the most, what inspires me the most, and what am I good at. Since being the Captain of the Starship Enterprise and keeping the company of an Android like Lt. Cmdr. Data was not an option, I decided that I might as well make a system that does what Data can do. I want to live in a world where every organisation's Captain has access to the abilities of Data while making critical decisions. And analytics is the key! This is what inspired me to pursue a career in analytics. Not just to create value for the company but have an impact on people's lives by influencing the decision making process.
